Berny Cat The Berny Cat is a 16ft one-design day-sailor that combines performance, looks, practicality and safety to appeal to both the weekend sailor and the serious helmsman. Stable yet fast, with a modern hull, it is designed by the French naval architect Jacques Fauroux. The Berny Cat is suitable for up to 4 adults and can be sailed single-handed, ‘en famille’ or with 2 up in serious competition.
The hull and deck are in GRP whilst the teak toe rails and coaming, gaff rig, Oregon pine spars, bronze fittings and Egyptian-cotton coloured Dacron sails blend together to give a distinctive classic style. For improved performance, the gaff can be supplied in carbon fibre.
The cockpit is self-draining and ample buoyancy is provided between the hull and deck mouldings. A large stern locker can store a 3hp short shaft outboard motor, which can be securely stowed below the hatch while the boat is under sail. For family sailing a folding dodger is available to give extra protection from the elements.
Munster Marine has been building the Berny Cat since 1998 and exports the majority of boats to France where there is now a fleet in the Golfe de Morbihan in Brittanny. The Berny Cat has consistently won first place in its category in the annual ‘Festival de Golfe’ regatta.
